This small group tour includes the major classical sites of western Turkey where the 7 Churches of Revelation are found, including: Laodiciea and Pamukkale with its thermal pools, Philadelphia, Sardis, Thyatira, Pergamum, Smyrna, and Ephesus. The route will generally follow the text of Revelations 1-3. 

This is a trip designed to explore some of the most featured regions of Turkey, while giving time and attention to the devotional journey awaiting you at the 7 Church sites of Revelations.

You'll depart from Izmir airport the final day on your international flight.

Highlights

Thyatira:

  • One of the Seven Churches of Revelation, Thyatira was an important center of trade in the Roman period, known for its guilds and purple dye industry. Today, its archaeological remains offer a glimpse into the city's early Christian heritage.

Pergamon:

  • A magnificent hilltop city and one of the greatest cultural centers of the ancient world, Pergamon is renowned for its Acropolis, impressive theater, and the remains of one of antiquity's most famous libraries.

Laodicea:

  • A prosperous Roman city mentioned in the Book of Revelation, Laodicea is celebrated for its remarkably restored streets, churches, theaters, and monumental buildings that reflect its former wealth.

Pamukkale:

  • Famous for its dazzling white travertine terraces formed by mineral-rich thermal waters, Pamukkale is one of Turkey's most iconic natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hierapolis:

  • Founded as a healing spa city above Pamukkale's thermal springs, Hierapolis flourished during the Roman era and features an impressive theater, necropolis, and remarkably preserved ancient ruins.

Sardis:

  • The ancient capital of the wealthy Kingdom of Lydia and home of King Croesus, Sardis was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation and is known for its monumental gymnasium and ancient synagogue.

Philadelphia:

  • Known today as Alaşehir, Philadelphia was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation and was praised for its steadfast faith. Though only limited ruins remain, it continues to hold great biblical significance.

Smyrna Agora:

  • The heart of ancient Smyrna, today's Izmir, this remarkably preserved Roman marketplace showcases elegant colonnades, arches, and inscriptions that reveal the city's rich commercial and civic life.

Ephesus: 

  • Once a leading city of Rome - it fell prey to silting up of the harbor - which also lead to the cities downfall and protection, to our benefit as it is now one of the best preserved cities from the ancient world.
Itinerary

Day 1: Ephesus Arrival 

After you land and exit through baggage claim, your guide will welcome you at Izmir Airport. Together with your driver, you will travel to Kusadasi and check in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and prepare for your biblical journey through the Seven Churches of Revelation.

Day 2: Thyatira & Pergamon

Your guide and driver will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and begin your journey to the first churches of Revelation. You will visit Thyatira, known as the hometown of Lydia, the seller of purple cloth, before continuing to the magnificent ancient city of Pergamon. Here you will explore the breathtaking Acropolis, the Temple of Trajan, the impressive theater, the Red Basilica, and the famous Asklepion, one of the world's earliest medical centers. After the tour, you will return to Kusadasi for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Laodicea, Hierapolis & Pamukkale

Following breakfast, your guide and driver will accompany you to Laodicea, one of the wealthiest cities of the Roman Empire and one of the Seven Churches of Revelation. After exploring its remarkably restored streets and churches, you will continue to Pamukkale to visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, famous for its Roman theater and the dazzling white travertine terraces known as the Cotton Castle. This evening, you will enjoy an overnight stay at a thermal hotel in Pamukkale.

Day 4: Sardis & Philadelphia

Optional: Early morning Hot Air Balloon Flight over Pamukkale.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will take you to Sardis, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Lydia, renowned for its monumental Gymnasium, Temple of Artemis, and one of the largest ancient synagogues ever discovered. You will then continue to Philadelphia, the faithful church praised in the Book of Revelation for its perseverance. After today's biblical explorations, you will travel to Sardis for your overnight stay at a thermal hotel.

Day 5: Smyrna, Ephesus & St. John's Basilica

Today you will complete your pilgrimage through the Seven Churches by visiting Smyrna Agora, the heart of ancient Izmir and one of the churches addressed in the Book of Revelation. You will then continue to the magnificent ancient city of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world, where you will discover highlights including the Library of Celsus, Marble Road, and the Great Theater. Your final stop will be St. John's Basilica, built over the believed burial place of St. John the Apostle. After the tour, enjoy a wine tasting experience at the Yedibilgeler Vineyards before returning to Kusadasi for your final overnight stay.

Day 6: Ephesus Departure

After breakfast and check-out, your driver will transfer you to Izmir Airport for your departure flight.
